ABOUT SCANNING

Scanning is the process used to convert pictures (and text) into a digital image that a computer can recognise. Each photograph, slide and/or negative is scanned into the computer as a computer file with no damage to the originals.

At Digital ReCollections, once we have scanned your images, they are saved as digital files and transferred (burnt) to a high compatibility DVD. Then, for the finishing touch, we print a personalised design on your disc/s and deliver them in a matching hard cover.

ADVANTAGES

    REDUCED STORAGE SPACE
  • Approximately 1000 pictures can be stored on a single DVD (average file size per picture is 4.5 Mb).

  • PROTECTION FROM AGEING AND DAMAGE
  • An image file on a disc is not reliant on chemicals, inks or paper to maintain its colour and quality.
  • Digital images can be stored on the disc or transferred to a computer hard drive.

  • ARCHIVING
  • At Digital ReCollections, we use A-grade Taiyo Yuden archive quality DVDs with expected lifetimes far exceeding other brands - 100 years and beyond if you store your discs appropriately (in dark, cool and dry conditions).

  • EASE OF VIEWING
  • Home DVD players can read JPEG picture files (images); check your DVD player's User Handbook for instructions.
  • On a computer with a DVD drive, the images can be viewed, copied into documents, printed, and also shared via webpage or email.

  • NO DVD PLAYER?
  • If you do not have access to a DVD player or computer DVD drive, your images can be put onto CDs for you.

  • FILE COPIES
  • You can make copies of your files on your own computer, or order replacement discs from us - copied from our archived master copies.

  • ENDLESS PRINTS
  • View your favourite images on computer and press the print button! That’s how easy it is to make ‘photo copies’ for friends and loved ones, once your photos have been digitised.
  • Alternately, you can insert the disc into your department store photo kiosk, and print your pictures there.
